Introducing Revitalize Des Plaines!

The Des Plaines Theater Preservation Society was formed in 2003. We successfully fought the proposed demolition of the theater and advocated for its restoration and reuse through a wide variety of activities, programs, tours, and other events. We also worked with the owner to improve the appearance of the lobby and marquee.

However, we came to realize that there are bigger issues to explain why the theater is underutilized. Downtown as a whole is not living up to its potential. Citywide, Des Plaines is losing sight of what makes it special. We believe that one of the most effective ways to improve the city is to embrace our heritage. Because of this, we have decided to change our name and focus.

Revitalize Des Plaines! will advocate for preservation initiatives in the city. Downtown heritage district designation can open up a wide variety of incentives to change the tides. In our historic neighborhoods, district designations can create incentives for homeowners and ensure that improvements are truly beneficial. Revitalize Des Plaines! will work to create a stronger environment.

This blog has a number of functions. It will contain updates on the organization, Des Plaines history, news stories, and commentary. We want to help you build a connection to your community.
